Giving Back...

DFW HIMSS is proud to be able to fund several local scholarships supporting students pursuing degrees in healthcare technology. Below is a testimonial from a recent scholarship recipient from Collin College:

What are your career goals and ambitions?

Upon graduation and passing of the RHIT exam, I hope to venture out into the Health Information Management world and find a job.  At that point, I will explore the different areas that HIM has to offer, but I'm leaning toward the data and IT side of it.  Once I've found a niche, I will go on to complete my Bachelor's degree in the related field and potentially my Master's degree.  There's a great big world out there for HIM professionals, so I'm not placing all my eggs in one basket.

What does receiving this scholarship mean to you?

I was thrilled to receive the email that I had been accepted [received the scholarship], and it took a great weight off my mind.  The acceptance of this scholarship ensures that my tuition is paid in its entirety until I graduate.  Receiving this scholarship means a great deal to me.  With both of my parents retired, and me only working a part time job, I was kind of floundering on how I was going to pay for tuition.  An additional scholarship from my church helped, but the offer of this scholarship ensures that my tuition will be paid for in full until my graduation.  It's given me peace of mind and allows me to budget towards books and other helpful resources for my HIM studies.  I absolutely cannot thank you enough for this offer.  I can promise you it is going to someone who won't let you down!  Thank you...
